The One Where I Alienate All My Readers

For my readers who aren't interested in hearing anything political, ya might just wanna skip ahead to the pictures ;)

With the election just 3 days away, I figured this was a good time to throw out my thoughts (and possibly, but hopefully not, alienate my readers!).

Economic policy: I want someone in office who will continue to help the middle class AND the lower class.  The upper class is doing just dandy, thankyouverymuch.  I cannot support someone who would cut social programs in order to extend tax cuts.  I would gladly (ok, not SUPER gladly) pay more in taxes if it meant that there was more social justice.

Which brings me to social policy: Universal healthcare? YES. Welfare and food stamps and WIC as a safety net?  YES.  Abortion?  NO.  I hope that anyone who knows me well already knew my answer to that one.  I am strongly and certainly pro-life.

I am so pro-life, in fact, that while I wholeheartedly believe life begins at conception, I disagree that protecting life should simply mean preventing abortion.  That baby will need his or her mom to have prenatal care, and once born will need healthcare, food, education...in a perfect world every person who became pregnant would have planned it and have the resources necessary to raise a child, but if that was the world we were living in then we would not need to have this discussion.

Basically, when it comes to social policy, I try to think like Jesus (and you should watch this link: Jesus is a Liberal Democrat).  The Bible is very clear and specific that we are supposed to feed the hungry, give shelter to the homeless, rescue the orphaned and impoverished.  Jesus did not tell us that we should take and take and take for ourselves because WE earned it and WE deserve it, because we did not earn anything and we deserve less than nothing.  I will not pretend that I have gotten to where I am in life only (or at all) because I've worked hard ~ I thank God every day for His blessing on our family, and I will continue to do my best to live in the way that He commanded.

Pictures!
