The One Where I Cry

This song makes me cry.

Every time I hear it. On days when I need a good cry, I just put it on repeat in iTunes. I was driving the first time I heard it. I looked in my rearview mirror at my two amazing and perfect creations and I couldn't help it ~ I had to pull into a gas station to gain my composure before continuing my drive.

As a mom of girls, I have the daunting and awesome responsibility to raise them in such a way that they have confidence in their worth. I'm not saying that boys are easy to raise or that the task is not equally daunting, it's just different. So every day, at least once, I remind my girls that they were created by God and that He made them special and unique. And even though some may tell me not to, I remind them daily how beautiful they are. A friend of mine changed my perspective on this recently, as I was worried about making them overconfident or self-centered by telling them that they are special and beautiful (and a host of other positive attributes). She reminded me that the world with beat them up. They will be chewed up and spit out. School is hard, kids are mean, they will have their hearts broken, and they will fail. When this happens (when, not if), they need to KNOW that they are loved, that they have inner-worth and are beautiful and unique creations who were made to be exactly who they are. God does not make mistakes.

***Isabella is included here, too. According to her, I am her "other mommy who gives her cheddar bunnies". She is also a beautiful and unique creation, and Sierra is equally committed to raising her to know it.***

There could never be a more beautiful you

Don't buy the lies disguises and hoops they make you jump through

You were made to fill a purpose that only you could do

So there could never be a more beautiful you.

I love the song and you're right, we have a huge responsibility as mothers of girls. It's scary to know how much they will come up against. I want Isabella and your girls to always know how special and how beautiful they are. I think you're doing a great job!
