Hurry, Hurry, Drive The Firetruck!

Maya's preschool class took a trip to the local fire station!

We got to tour the sleeping and eating quarters

see the trucks
One of the original firetrucks ~ the ladders are made of wood!

learn things about firemen (did you know that call-to-road time is 2 minutes???), and have a lot of fun!
The kids were all very interested in pretending to drive the truck,

and in seeing someone go down the fireman's pole.  Of course, they all wanted to go down the pole, too

but for obvious safety reasons that didn't happen!

This week has been fire safety week at preschool and I'm so impressed with all that Maya is learning!  She knows that you should stop-drop-roll if your clothes are on fire, that you shouldn't breathe in smoke, that you should get "low and go" from a smoke-filled room, and that you should have a meeting place outside of your house, just in case.  Michael and I are working on that last one!

At the end of the field trip, the kids got to see a fireman get dressed in all his fire gear, including mask and helmet.  They explained several times that, even though he looked different afterward, the person inside was still the same, and that in a fire you should go to the man with the big mask on.  Based on Maya's reaction (crying and hiding her face), I'm thinking we need to work a bit on the fact that firemen are the good guys!

Here are some more random pictures of the day!

Yep.  They have several signs about how to recognize a meth lab.  One of the little girls asked her mom what the sign was for, and her mom said, "well, honey, that's meth."  What else can you say? :)

Maya looks so cute with her little friend! Because we can't avoid making ridiculous comments, Walter said Charlotte was pole dancing. :)
